What Are RG7H1R and RG7OZR Cables?
RG7H1R and RG7OZR are medium voltage EPR-insulated power cables used for MV power distribution, airport lighting systems, and industrial applications. The designation follows IEC standards: R indicates EPR insulation, G indicates glands/connector compatible, 7 indicates rated voltage, H1 indicates type of construction, and R/OZR indicates sheath/armour variants. RG7H1R is unarmoured (copper wire screen only), while RG7OZR is steel wire armoured for direct burial and mechanical protection.

RG7H1R Cable Construction (Unarmoured)
Conductor
- Material: Stranded copper (Class 2 per IEC 60228)

Conductor Screen
- Material: Semiconducting cross-linked compound (extruded)

Insulation Screen
- Material: Semiconducting cross-linked compound (extruded, strippable)
- Function: Provides smooth interface between insulation and metallic screen
Metallic Screen
- Material: Copper wire screen or copper tape
- Coverage: Minimum 90% coverage for short circuit current carrying capacity
- Function: Earth fault current path, electromagnetic shielding
Outer Sheath
- Material: PVC (polyvinyl chloride) type ST2

RG7OZR Cable Construction (Armoured)
RG7OZR has the same core construction as RG7H1R, plus additional armour layer:
Bedding (Inner Sheath)
- Material: PVC or LSZH compound
- Function: Separation between metallic screen and armour, provides bedding for armour wires
Armour
- Material: Galvanized steel wire armour (SWA) or steel tape armour (STA)
- Function: Mechanical protection for direct burial, impact resistance, rodent protection
- Single-core cables: Aluminum wire armour (AWA) to prevent magnetic losses
Outer Sheath
- Material: PVC type ST2 or LSZH
- Properties: UV resistant, flame retardant, abrasion resistant
