RFOU Cable: Complete Specifications & Datasheet Guide

What Is RFOU Cable?

The RFOU cable is a flame-retardant offshore and marine power cable rated 0.6/1kV, designed for general power distribution on offshore oil platforms, ships, and marine installations. The designation “RFOU” follows the NEK 606 standard: R indicates rubber/EPR insulation, F indicates flexible conductor, O indicates oil-resistant sheath, and U indicates LSZH (low smoke zero halogen) outer sheath. RFOU is flame-retardant per IEC 60332 but not fire-resistant — for fire-critical circuits, use BFOU cable instead.

TEBAOFLEX manufactures RFOU cable to NEK 606 with DNV, ABS, and LR certification support. View our RFOU 0.6/1kV offshore power cable product page for detailed specifications.

  • Temperature: 90°C continuous conductor temperature
  • Dielectric strength: Excellent electrical properties for LV distribution

Inner Sheath and Bedding

  • Material: LSZH (low smoke zero halogen) compound
  • Function: Flame retardant bedding layer, provides cable core stability

Armour

  • Material: Galvanized steel wire braid (GSWB)
  • Function: Mechanical protection, electromagnetic screening, physical durability
  • Alternative: Tinned copper wire braid available for enhanced conductivity

Outer Sheath

  • Material: LSZH (low smoke zero halogen) compound, typically orange (ST1)
  • Properties: Flame retardant (IEC 60332-3-22 Category A), low smoke (IEC 61034), zero halogen (IEC 60754)
  • UV resistance: Suitable for outdoor deck installation
  • Oil resistance: Resistant to hydraulic oils, fuels, and lubricants

RFOU Cable Selection Guide

  1. Determine if fire resistance is required: For fire-critical circuits (fire pumps, emergency systems), use BFOU. For general power, RFOU is sufficient
  2. Choose voltage: 0.6/1kV for LV distribution
  3. Calculate current: Full-load current with derating for ambient temperature (45°C offshore) and grouping
  4. Select core count: 1C for feeders, 3C/4C for 3-phase distribution, multi-core for control
  5. Verify classification society: DNV, ABS, LR, or BV per project specification
  6. Confirm LSZH: Ensure sheath meets IEC 61034 and IEC 60754 for enclosed spaces
