Application & Operating Conditions
Type SHD-GC 5000 V medium-voltage portable power cable feeds high-output 2,400 V and 4,160 V underground longwall shearers, high-seam continuous miners, loading shovels, rotary blast-hole drills, and floating cutterhead dredges. Manufactured strictly to ICEA S-75-381 / NEMA WC 58, it upgrades dielectric reliability over 2 kV trailing cables by adding extruded semi-conducting conductor and insulation stress-control shields around a heavy 110–120 mil ozone-resistant EPR wall.
4.16 kV Longwall Shearers & Miners
Supports high-kilowatt longwall face motors over extended trailing runs with reduced voltage drop, torsion-stabilized integral filling, and continuous ground-check safety monitoring.
Loading Shovels, Drills & Dredges
Withstands repetitive ground dragging, rock impact, hydraulic oil exposure, and wet pit conditions on surface shovels, barge dredges, and mobile substation tie-ins.
Choice of CPE or Lightweight TPU
Select mold-cured thermosetting CPE for underground flame/heat ruggedness or extra-tough TPU to cut 10–18% off trailing weight and maximize cut-through resistance.
Medium-Voltage Termination Integrity: All 5 kV SHD-GC phases incorporate free-stripping insulation shielding and color-coded phase tracer braids (Black, White, Red) to streamline cold-shrink stress-cone terminations inside mine couplers.
Cable Construction (ICEA S-75-381 Type SHD-GC 5000 V)
True medium-voltage shielded trailing construction engineered from flexible rope-lay tinned copper through triple dielectric stress control, copper braid phase screens, and heavy reinforced outer sheathing.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Answers to engineering questions regarding 4.16 kV longwall selection, center vs. interstitial GC, and coupler compatibility.
Is Type SHD-GC 5kV suitable for 4,160 V underground longwall shearer circuits?
Yes. Type SHD-GC 5000 V (110–120 mil EPR wall) is the primary North American trailing cable for 4.16 kV longwall shearers and continuous miners. If your monospiral shearer reel experiences severe dynamic S-bending, we also manufacture center-pilot Type SHD-CGC 5kV.
Do the CPE and TPU 5kV jackets use the same cable gland and coupler grommets?
Yes. Both jacket compounds are extruded to identical ICEA S-75-381 nominal wall thicknesses (185 to 280 mils) and overall diameters (39.6 mm to 84.1 mm), ensuring 100% interchangeability with standard 5 kV mine couplers.
What ground-check conductor size is supplied in 5kV Type SHD-GC?
Across all 5 kV sizes from 6 AWG through 500 kcmil, TEBAOFLEX supplies a heavy 8 AWG (133-strand) tinned copper ground-check conductor insulated with yellow polypropylene for high tensile break resistance.
