Product Overview: TEBAOFLEX 300/500V PE/PVC shielded and screened instrumentation cable transmits low-level analog (4–20 mA, HART), thermocouple/transmitter, and digital PLC/DCS control signals across fixed industrial routes. Combining low-capacitance polyethylene (PE) core insulation, ≤100 mm twisted-pair lay length, and 100%-coverage aluminium/polyester foil screening (OS or IS+OS), it is supplied unarmoured or with galvanized steel round-wire armour (GSWA / SWA).

1. Application & Screening Variant Selection

In power plants, chemical processing units, water treatment works, and onshore oil/gas terminals, selecting between collective screening (OS) and individual-plus-overall screening (IS+OS) depends on whether adjacent pairs carry mixed signal types or require pair-to-pair crosstalk isolation.

Engineering Boundary Note: An IS-only construction (individual screens without a collective overall screen) or triad (3-core RTD) layout is not part of the four standard builds above, but can be manufactured against an approved project drawing. For high-temperature Pt100 RTD circuits, see our 200°C shielded RTD sensor cable; for solid vs. stranded refinery pair criteria, review our gas and oil resistant solid vs. stranded pair cable guide.

5. Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between OS and IS+OS shielded instrumentation cable?

OS (Overall Screened, or CAM) places one collective aluminium/polyester foil tape and a 0.5 mm² tinned copper drain wire around all assembled pairs to shield against external electromagnetic interference. IS+OS (Individually and Overall Screened, or IAM/PiMF) wraps a dedicated foil screen and drain wire around each twisted pair plus an overall foil screen, eliminating pair-to-pair crosstalk when multiple analog, HART, or pulse loops share one cable.

When should galvanized steel-wire armoured (SWA) instrumentation cable be specified?

Specify the armoured build (black PE inner bedding + galvanized steel round-wire armour) when cables run along outdoor pipe racks, open ladders, direct-burial ducts, or plant areas exposed to crushing loads, falling tools, or rodents. Always match SWA brass/stainless Ex or industrial cable glands to the bedding and overall diameters.

Should I specify stranded copper or solid pair instrumentation conductors?

The four standard constructions on this page use circular stranded copper conductors (Class 2), which pull easily around conduit bends, tolerate moderate equipment vibration, and clamp securely in marshalling terminals. If your project specification strictly mandates Class 1 solid copper pairs or 3-wire RTD triads, request a custom build drawing from our engineering team.

Is this cable automatically certified for intrinsically safe (Ex i) or BS 5308 / EN 50288-7 circuits?

No cable construction automatically certifies a complete intrinsically safe system. Where your project requires RAL 5015 blue outer sheath identification for Ex i circuits, verified mutual capacitance (pF/m) and L/R ratios, or manufacture to a specific edition of BS 5308 Part 1 or EN 50288-7, include those requirements in your inquiry for formal datasheet sign-off.

What pair counts, conductor sizes, and minimum order quantities (MOQ) are available?

OS builds cover single-pair (1P) and multi-pair (2P–24P+) cables; IS+OS builds cover multi-pair (2P–24P+) cables across 0.5, 0.75, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.5 mm² (see our AWG to mm² conversion chart for 20–14 AWG equivalents). Typical MOQ starts at 100–300 meters per specification depending on pair count and armouring.
