Application & Operating Conditions
AS/NZS 2802 Type 441 is a semiconductive elastomer screened flexible mining cable family (1.1 kV to 22 kV, 6–300 mm²) built with three phase cores, three interstitial earth cores, and one central extensible pilot — supplied in Type 441.1 Class 2 (1.1/1.1 kV) for heavy general mining trailing and Type 441 Class 1 (3.3 kV to 22 kV) for materials handling, slow reeling, and compact-diameter trailing equipment.
Non-Metallic Screen Flex Life
Replacing copper wire core braids with extruded semiconductive elastomer screens and three interstitial earth cores eliminates broken-wire insulation puncture under cyclic bending.
Compact Class 1 MV Reeling (3.3–22 kV)
Class 1 XR-EP-90 insulation and XHD-85-PCP sheath radials significantly reduce overall diameter and weight compared with Class 2 cables (e.g., 106 mm vs. 115 mm at 22 kV 95 mm²) for bulk-handling reels.
Hard-Rock & Open-Cut 1.1 kV Trailing
Type 441.1 Class 2 (1.1/1.1 kV, 4.2 kV test) powers jumbo drills, LHDs, mobile crushers, and pumps in open-cut and underground metalliferous mines.
Underground Coal Mine Application? AS/NZS 2802 cables apply to surface mines, ports, and non-coal underground mines. For underground coal mining semiconductive-screened cables (1.1–11 kV), view AS/NZS 1802 Type 241.
Cable Construction (Type 441.1 Class 2 & Type 441 Class 1)
Both Type 441 series share a symmetrical 3-phase + 3-interstitial-earth + 1-central-pilot architecture enclosed within a semiconductive cradle/bedding and braid-reinforced heavy-duty elastomer outer sheath.

Selection: Type 441 vs. Type 455 vs. Type 409
Comparing AS/NZS 2802 semiconductive and composite screened cables ensures compatibility with existing coupler pinouts and reeling drum bend radii.
| Cable Model | Earth / Pilot Geometry & Target Service |
|---|---|
| Type 441 (This Product) | Semiconductive screen + 3 interstitial earths + 1 central pilot (1.1 kV Class 2 & 3.3–22 kV Class 1, up to 300 mm²). Symmetrical 3-earth balance with compact Class 1 MV OD. |
| Type 455 (Class 1 Reeling) | Type 455 also uses semiconductive core screens (3.3–11 kV) but places 2 earths + 1 larger pilot in the three outer interstices (no central pilot) for slow reeling drums. |
| Type 409 (Class 2 Trailing) | For severe rock-drag open-cut trailing requiring heavy Class 2 walls at 3.3–22 kV and metallic composite braids, specify Type 409. |
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Technical answers on Class 1 vs. Class 2 radial walls, 22 kV cross-section range, and pilot resistance.
Why does Type 441 use Class 2 at 1.1 kV (Type 441.1) and Class 1 at 3.3–22 kV?
At 1.1/1.1 kV (Type 441.1 Class 2), thicker mechanical walls protect trailing cables dragged directly behind jumbos and LHDs. At 3.3 kV to 22 kV (Type 441 Class 1), high-grade XR-EP-90 insulation allows thinner dielectric radials (e.g., 2.2–2.4 mm at 3.3 kV, 5.0 mm at 11 kV, 7.6 mm at 22 kV) to reduce cable OD and drum torque on stackers, reclaimers, and mobile substations.
Does Type 441.22 cover large 22 kV cross-sections up to 240 mm²?
Yes. Unlike Class 2 22 kV cables that top out at 95 mm² due to outer diameter limits, Type 441.22 Class 1 spans 8 standard sizes from 35 mm² all the way to 240 mm² (106 mm nominal OD) for high-MVA 22 kV bulk materials handling and mine equipment.
Can TEBAOFLEX supply both official PDF datasheets with factory quotation packages?
Yes — both the Type 441.1 Class 2 (1.1 kV) Datasheet and the Type 441 Class 1 (3.3–22 kV) Datasheet are directly downloadable on this page.
