Application & Operating Conditions
Type G Flat 600–2,000 V portable mining cable is purpose-built for DC underground shuttle cars, roof bolters, face drills, and mobile reel-fed DC haulage machines that require a dedicated low-impedance metallic equipment grounding conductor separate from the DC negative return conductor. Positioning the stranded tinned copper ground conductor along the center web between the Black and White EPR power cores preserves ultra-compact flat spooling while meeting ICEA S-75-381 / MSHA grounding area rules.
Grounded DC Shuttle-Car Reels
Provides an independent metallic frame-grounding path (≥50% circular-mil area of one power core) without sacrificing level-wind drum capacity in low-seam underground mines.
Balanced Center-Web Ground Placement
Centering the flexible tinned copper ground wire between the two insulated power cores shields it from edge rib-scrape damage and distributes reel tension evenly.
Mold-Cured Two-Layer Reinforced CPE
Vulcanized extra-heavy-duty CPE with embedded synthetic fiber reinforcement resists corkscrewing, splice pull-out, hydraulic oil, coal slurry, and wheel run-over.
Engineering Specification Note: Unlike ungrounded Type W Flat 2/C, true ICEA S-75-381 Type G Flat 2/C incorporates a dedicated central tinned copper ground core, widening major flat dimension (W) by 0.08–0.26 in to accommodate the central ground web.
Cable Construction (ICEA S-75-381 Type G Flat 2/C + Ground)
Symmetrical three-element parallel flat assembly combining two 90°C EPR power conductors and one central flexible tinned copper equipment grounding conductor inside a fiber-reinforced mold-cured CPE sheath.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Technical FAQs on Type G Flat grounding sizing, splicing, and reel tension.
Why is the center ground wire in Type G Flat sized 2 to 3 AWG numbers smaller than the power cores?
Per ICEA S-75-381 and MSHA 30 CFR Part 75, the equipment grounding conductor in a two-power-conductor mining cable must have a cross-sectional area of at least 50% of one power conductor (for example, 1 × 2 AWG ground = 66,360 cmil alongside 2 × 2/0 AWG power = 133,100 cmil, providing exactly 49.9–50%+ conductance).
Does Type G Flat 2kV include a Ground-Check (GC) pilot wire?
No. Standard Type G Flat contains two insulated power cores plus equipment grounding only. Where three-phase power plus continuous ground-check monitoring is required, mines specify round Type G-GC or shielded Type SHD-GC.
What splice kits work with TEBAOFLEX Type G Flat CPE shuttle-car cable?
Our mold-cured CPE compound bonds reliably with all industry-standard cold-vulcanizing and heat-shrink flat mining cable splice boots and wraparound flame-resistant repair sleeves.
