MCA self-regulating heat-trace cable is a parallel-bus electric heating cable for engineered pipe freeze protection, tank frost protection and process temperature maintenance. The four constructions below share a 230 V reference supply and a temperature-responsive conductive-polymer heating core, but they do not share the same maximum temperature, jacket chemistry or cleaning suitability. TEBAOFLEX can review the required output and environment against the selected build before supply.
Which MCA heat-trace construction fits the installation?
Select from the actual pipe or vessel surface temperature, chemical exposure and required heat output. All wattages below are nominal reference outputs at 10°C pipe temperature; self-regulating output changes with local temperature. The energized and unpowered-exposure limits are different quantities and must not be interchanged.
| Construction | Output options at 10°C pipe | Max. energized | Max. unpowered exposure | Insulation / outer jacket | Minimum installation temperature |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| MCA | 10, 15, 25, 30 or 40 W/m | 65°C | 80°C | Modified polyolefin / modified polyolefin | -55°C |
| MCA-I-PF | 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 or 40 W/m | 65°C | 80°C | Modified polyolefin / fluoropolymer | -55°C |
| MCA-I-FF | 10, 15, 20, 30, 45 or 60 W/m | 110°C | 130°C | Fluoropolymer / fluoropolymer | -60°C |
| MCA-I-GF | 10, 15, 25, 30 or 60 W/m | 120°C | 120°C | Fluoropolymer / modified polyolefin | -60°C |
All four reference constructions use two parallel copper bus wires, a conductive self-regulating core and a copper braid. The stated minimum bend radius is 25 mm. Jacket material, chemical exposure and cleaning method should be confirmed for the ordered variant; the table is not a blanket compatibility guarantee.
Output and model selection
The model lists help engineers and buyers distinguish closely related heat-tracing options without mistaking one output for another. The output number is not an unconditional field value: pipe temperature, supply voltage, insulation, heat loss and installation details affect system performance.
| Construction | Reference model to nominal output at 10°C pipe temperature |
|---|---|
| MCA | MCA3 10; MCA5 15; MCA8 25; MCA10 30; MCA13-I 40 W/m |
| MCA-I-PF | MCA3-I-PF 10; MCA5-I-PF 15; MCA7-I-PF 20; MCA8-I-PF 25; MCA10-I-PF 30; MCA13-I-PF 40 W/m |
| MCA-I-FF | MCA3-I-FF 10; MCA5-I-FF 15; MCA7-I-FF 20; MCA10-I-FF 30; MCA15-I-FF 45; MCA20-I-FF 60 W/m |

Typical pipe and tank heating applications
These electric heat-trace cable options can be considered for water-line freeze protection, insulated process pipe temperature maintenance and storage-tank or vessel frost protection where an engineered heat-loss calculation supports the selection. The illustration shows cable routing on a pipe leading to a tank; it is an application concept, not a completed installation or approved wiring plan.

For MCA and MCA-I-PF, avoid assuming suitability for steam cleaning or strong corrosive or organic-acid exposure. MCA-I-FF is the higher-temperature fluoropolymer-jacket option to evaluate when cleaning or chemical exposure is part of the specification; confirm the exact chemical, concentration, contact duration and cleaning temperature. MCA-I-GF is a higher-temperature option for safe-area metal surfaces but is not the steam-wash choice. Do not transfer any one variant’s exposure limit to another variant.
What must be confirmed before ordering?
Share the pipe diameter and material, tank geometry, insulation thickness, ambient minimum, maintained process temperature, maximum excursion while energized and unpowered, available 230 V supply, chemical exposure, cleaning method, required route length and quantity. TEBAOFLEX can review the selected core output and jacket build, then confirm the drawing and quotation. Maximum circuit length, protective-device rating, controls, terminations and earth-braid connection require a project-specific electrical design; they are not derived from wattage alone.
- Do not treat self-regulating behavior as a substitute for temperature controls, electrical protection or installation instructions.
- Confirm chemical and surface compatibility of the exact outer jacket before installation.
- Keep bend radius at or above the selected construction’s 25 mm reference minimum and follow the approved installation plan.
- Custom output, jacket, marking, length and packaging requests are reviewed against build feasibility; commercial terms are quoted after specification review.

Frequently asked questions
Is 60 W/m available in every MCA construction?
No. The 60 W/m reference option appears in MCA-I-FF and MCA-I-GF. MCA and MCA-I-PF top out at 40 W/m in the supplied model lists.
Does 120°C apply to all MCA heat-trace cables?
No. The maximum energized temperature is 65°C for MCA and MCA-I-PF, 110°C for MCA-I-FF and 120°C for MCA-I-GF. Check the unpowered-exposure limit separately.
Can one fixed circuit length be chosen from the product name?
No. Circuit length depends on selected output, voltage, startup temperature and electrical protection. Provide the project conditions for a design check.
