PCP spreader basket control cable is a black, 300/500 V multicore construction for a gravity-fed collector basket on container-handling equipment. In this route, the cable hangs, coils and uncoils while carrying control circuits to the spreader. Extra-flexible copper conductors, 90°C-class EPR insulation, aramid support and a PCP outer sheath are documented for the reference build. TEBAOFLEX can review a corresponding standard, cold-flex or optical-fibre configuration for the actual basket and travel conditions.
Construction and variant selection
| Component or variant | Documented design | Selection implication |
|---|---|---|
| Copper cores | Extra-flexible stranded copper with EPR insulation; six-core grouping in the reference assembly | Provide the circuit and core-identification schedule. |
| Mechanical support | Central aramid elements | Check suspended load and how support is terminated. |
| Outer covering | Black polychloroprene (PCP) | Confirm the required compound and exposure conditions. |
| Standard ambient reference | -40°C to +80°C fixed; -25°C to +80°C in operation | Use only for the standard build. |
| Cold-flex ambient reference | -60°C to +60°C fixed; -40°C to +80°C in operation | A separate low-temperature construction, not an automatic property of the standard build. |
| Optical variant | Copper control cores with integrated optical elements | Confirm fibre count, fibre type, routing and termination. |
The supplied reference lists 300/500 V nominal voltage. A 90°C insulation class does not mean the whole basket system, terminations or ambient can operate at 90°C. The final electrical and environmental limits must be confirmed for the ordered construction.
Standard copper-core configurations
These approximate dimensions, masses and bend radii are reference values for the black PCP basket cable, not a universal rule for every revised build. Send the basket envelope and route for a project-specific drawing.
| Copper core configuration | Outside diameter, mm min–max | Approx. weight, kg/m | Reference minimum bend radius, mm |
|---|---|---|---|
| 36 × 2.5 mm² | 38.6–41.6 | 2.60 | 650 |
| 42 × 2.5 mm² | 40.8–43.8 | 3.10 | 700 |
| 48 × 2.5 mm² | 45.8–48.8 | 3.70 | 750 |
| 54 × 2.5 mm² | 48–52 | 4.10 | 800 |
| 36 × 3.3 mm² | 44.5–47.5 | 3.25 | 700 |
| 42 × 3.3 mm² | 47.6–50.6 | 3.80 | 750 |
| 48 × 3.3 mm² | 52–55 | 4.50 | 800 |
| 54 × 3.3 mm² | 57–60 | 5.00 | 900 |
Integrated optical-fibre configurations
Reference copper-plus-fibre options are listed below. Fibre elements are project-dependent; the supplied document describes 6–24 optical fibres as a possible special construction. The actual fibre count, type, attenuation and termination method require confirmation.
| Copper cores plus optical element | Outside diameter, mm min–max | Approx. weight, kg/m |
|---|---|---|
| 36 × 2.5 mm² + optical | 40.8–43.8 | 3.10 |
| 42 × 2.5 mm² + optical | 45.8–48.8 | 3.70 |
| 48 × 2.5 mm² + optical | 47–51 | 4.10 |
| 36 × 3.3 mm² + optical | 46.6–49.6 | 3.80 |
| 42 × 3.3 mm² + optical | 52–55 | 4.50 |
| 48 × 3.3 mm² + optical | 57–60 | 5.00 |
Basket lay and installation considerations
Gravity-fed baskets are not the same as conventional drum reels. The reference installation notes a left-hand lay of conductor groups and recommends a defined coiling direction from the basket bottom. That instruction cannot be applied blindly to a different crane: verify the supplied cable lay, basket turn direction, swivel arrangement, vertical drop, guide path and anchor points on the final installation drawing. The source gives a maximum travel-speed reference, but this page does not claim one universal TEBAOFLEX speed without a project review. Permanent submersion and unverified chemical exposure are outside the stated reference conditions.

Illustrations show a representative cable construction and application, not an approved production drawing or a documented customer installation. Final dimensions and performance must be confirmed for the ordered build.
What to send for a technical quote
Provide the number and size of copper cores, voltage, circuit grouping, optical specification, cable travel, basket dimensions, suspended length, ambient range, connector schedule and order quantity. TEBAOFLEX can assess sheath marking, core identification, drum length and packing. For a PUR-sheathed spreader-basket alternative, compare the spreader basket cable, or browse the port and crane cable range.
Frequently asked questions
Is the cold-flex option the same as the standard cable?
No. It is a separate material/construction option with a different reference temperature range.
Can any 36-core cable replace the 36 × 2.5 mm² basket design?
No. Core grouping, outside diameter, weight, support and basket lay must also match the installation.
Is the fibre count fixed in the optical variant?
No. Include the required count, fibre type and termination requirements in the enquiry.
