Application & Underground Mining Service
MGM 109 Type 1012 (2-core), Type 1013 (3-core), and Type 1014 (4-core) are 600/1000 V single galvanized steel wire armoured (SWA) PVC cables engineered under Turkish TTK MGM 109/1983 for fixed low-voltage power distribution, roadway lighting, conveyors, and auxiliary machinery in underground mines.
Type 1012 (2-Core, 1.5–16 mm²)
Dedicated to single-phase underground roadway lighting trunks, control-power transformers, solenoid banks, and DC auxiliary supply feeders.
Type 1013 (3-Core, 1.5–95 mm²)
Supplies balanced 3-phase underground motors, booster fans, stage conveyors, and dewatering pumps where the single GSW armour acts as the protective earth.
Type 1014 (4-Core, 1.5–95 mm²)
Provides 3 phase cores plus a full-size fourth neutral or dedicated insulated earth conductor alongside the galvanized steel wire armour.
Type Code Decoding (MGM 109 — 1012 / 1013 / 1014): 1 = 600/1000 V, 0 = unscreened, 1 = single-layer GSW armour (SWA), 2 / 3 / 4 = number of insulated copper cores.
Cable Construction & Layer Anatomy
All three TTK MGM 109 single-armoured 600/1000 V sub-types (1012, 1013, and 1014) share a unified five-layer PVC and galvanized steel wire construction optimized for lighter pulling weight, tighter 9x Max OD bending radius, and fast SWA gland termination in horizontal mine galleries.
| Layer / Component | Material & MGM 109/1983 Engineering Specification |
|---|---|
| 1. Conductor | Electrolytic annealed bare copper wire per IEC 60228 Class 1 (solid, 1.5–2.5 mm²) or Class 2 (circular stranded, up to 95 mm²). |
| 2. Core Insulation | Flame-retardant PVC dielectric compound (0.8 mm to 1.6 mm radial wall thickness) laid up in close contact. |
| 3. Inner Bedding | Extruded PVC-based inner sheath (0.8 mm to 1.2 mm radial wall) providing a uniform circular bedding under the steel wires. |
| 4. Single GSW Armour (SWA) | Single concentric helical layer of galvanized steel round wires (0.9 mm, 1.25 mm, 1.60 mm, 1.80 mm, or 2.0 mm diameter), with optional galvanized steel binder tape. |
| 5. Outer Sheath | Black special flame-retardant PVC outer sheath (1.3 mm to 2.2 mm radial thickness) resistant to underground humidity, oils, and abrasion. |

MGM 109 Type 1013 Cross-Section (3-Core Shown): Unscreened Class 1/2 bare copper PVC cores, extruded PVC inner bedding, single-layer GSW wire armour, and special PVC outer sheath.

Selection Guide: Choosing Between Type 1012, 1013, 1014 & DWA Series
Match insulated copper core count and galvanized steel wire armour layer count to your underground low-voltage circuit topology — whether single-phase lighting (Type 1012), balanced 3-phase motor feeders (Type 1013), 3P+N/PE distribution (Type 1014), or high-crush vertical shaft drops (Type 1023/1024).
| MGM 109 Sub-Type | Circuit Topology & Recommended Underground Installation |
|---|---|
| Type 1012 (2-Core SWA, 1.5–16 mm²) | Single-phase AC or DC fixed circuits: roadway lighting strings, control transformers, and alarm power supplies (SWA earthed). |
| Type 1013 (3-Core SWA, 1.5–95 mm²) | Balanced 3-phase delta motors (fans, conveyors, pumps) using the galvanized steel wire armour as the protective earth path. |
| Type 1014 (4-Core SWA, 1.5–95 mm²) | 3-phase + neutral distribution boards or 3-phase + dedicated copper earth circuits requiring dual copper/armour grounding. |
| Type 1023 / 1024 (3C & 4C DWA) | Upgrade to twin-layer galvanized steel wire armour where cables hang vertically in shafts or pass through high-crush haulage ways. |
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
The engineering answers below address frequent project procurement questions covering BS 6121 and EN 62444 SWA compression gland compatibility, flame-retardant mining PVC performance in gassy coal seams, and consolidated multi-size container shipments for MGM 109 Type 1012, 1013, and 1014 tenders.
Are MGM 109 Type 1012, 1013, and 1014 compatible with standard BS 6121 / EN 62444 SWA glands?
Yes. Because they use a single layer of standard round galvanized steel armour wires (0.9 mm to 2.0 mm) between extruded PVC inner and outer sheaths, standard industrial or Ex d/Ex e mining SWA glands fit directly.
Can Type 1013 and Type 1014 be used in gassy coal mines?
Yes. MGM 109/1983 specifies a special flame-retardant mining PVC outer sheath and metallic galvanized steel wire armour suitable for fixed roadway and surface installations in gassy hard-coal operations.
Can TEBAOFLEX consolidate multiple MGM 109 sizes into one mixed container shipment?
Yes. We routinely manufacture mixed tender bills of quantities combining Type 1012, 1013, 1014, 3013, and 3123 on fumigated export wooden drums.
