Armoured Tow Cable with Galvanized Steel Wire | TEBAOFLEX

TEBAOFLEX Armoured Tow Cable is a heavy-duty, high-tensile towing cable with galvanized steel wire armour for underwater sensors, sonar, marine survey, offshore energy, ROV and specialized towing systems.

Armoured Tow Cable with Galvanized Steel Wire

TEBAOFLEX Armoured Tow Cable is a heavy-duty, high-tensile-strength towing line protected by layers of galvanized steel wire. It is designed to pull underwater sensors, sonar systems, cameras, survey equipment and other marine or subsea targets while carrying power, data or control signals through harsh and abrasive environments.

The cable construction is engineered for high dynamic loads, repetitive bending over ship winches and demanding deployment or recovery cycles. Power, signal, coaxial, multi-conductor and hybrid configurations can be combined according to the towing system and instrument requirements.

Design and Structure

  • Inner Core: Single-coaxial, multi-conductor or hybrid configurations for power, control and data transmission.
  • Insulation Layers: HDPE, XLPE, PP, ETFE or other project-selected materials to protect internal conductors from moisture, pressure and environmental exposure.
  • Armour Layers: Single or dual counter-helical layers of preformed galvanized steel wire to balance torque, increase tensile strength and resist crushing.
  • Outer Sheath: A protective jacket designed for abrasion, water, oil, corrosion, ultraviolet exposure and repeated contact with marine handling equipment.
  • Termination: Cable ends, bend protection and connector interfaces can be coordinated with the winch, sensor, sonar or towed body.

Key Performance Benefits

  • High tensile strength for controlled towing and suspended loads.
  • Galvanized steel wire armour for mechanical protection and crush resistance.
  • Torque-balanced armour options for stable handling during deployment and recovery.
  • Durability for repetitive bending over ship winches and sheaves.
  • Combined transmission of electrical power, signals, data and optional fibre-optic communication.
  • Custom construction for seawater, abrasion, pressure and other marine environmental conditions.

Core Applications

  • Oceanographic Research: Deployment and towing of deep-sea sensors, CTD profilers, cameras and monitoring instruments.
  • Offshore Energy: Oil and gas seabed surveys, seismic equipment, pipeline inspection and offshore inspection systems.
  • Marine Survey: Sonar, hydrographic survey, geophysical and subsea mapping equipment.
  • ROV and Subsea Operations: Towed bodies, underwater vehicles, intervention tools and subsea monitoring systems.
  • Defense and Aviation: Marine or aerial target systems and specialized towing equipment where high friction and dynamic loading are expected.

Transmission and Cable Configurations

ConfigurationTypical function
Coaxial coreSonar, video, telemetry or other high-frequency signal transmission.
Multi-conductor corePower supply, instrumentation, control and low-voltage signal circuits.
Hybrid coreCombined power, signal and fibre-optic data transmission in one tow cable.
Armour systemSingle or dual counter-helical galvanized steel wire layers selected for tensile load, torque balance and crushing resistance.

Selection Requirements

To select the correct armoured tow cable, confirm the towing load, cable length, deployment depth, winch type, bending radius, bending cycles, towing speed, water current, seabed contact risk and recovery method. The electrical power, signal bandwidth, coaxial channels, fibre-optic count and connector requirements should also be provided.

TEBAOFLEX will review the complete duty profile before confirming the wire size, armour arrangement, core construction, outer sheath, buoyancy requirement and termination design. A dynamic tow cable should be assessed as part of the complete winch and towing system rather than selected only by outside diameter.
